Some Other Wise Tips for a Safe Spring Break
It is that time of year again- springtime. For some, this means family time. But for others, like many college students, for example, it means a whole week of partying. While spring break can be a time for celebration away from the stressful college life, it can also lead to tragedies if a student isn’t careful.
Here are some things to do to ensure that your spring break is a great memory, rather than a horror story:
Don’t Use Drugs
I know, what a party-pooper way to start a topic. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when you are out having fun. All drugs, including alcohol, have a reputation for contributing to poor decision-making skills. You are a lot more likely to make a stupid decision that you will regret when under the influence of drugs. If you are high and meet the “love of your life” there is a good chance you will wake up in a place that you will not like. Including jail. Possession of illicit drugs is a felony in most states and felonies lead to prison. Drugs will always bring you into dangerous situations that could end up really bad so the best way to avoid that kind of drama is to not partake in drug use.
Stick Together
It’s super easy to lose track of your friends at a party or festival. So if you are headed out to a vacation spot with a group of friends, it’s crucial that you all stick together. As mentioned above, people don’t make the best choices while under the influence of alcohol and/or other drugs. You don’t want to find yourself or your friends in a horrible situation like drunk driving. Did they leave with a stranger or wander off drunk alone? There are too many different possible scenarios to list them all, but the important thing to remember is to keep each other safe.
Don’t Drink and Drive
Speaking of - many students get behind the wheel of a car or get into a car with someone who has been drinking. This is never a good idea. Drunk driving can have serious, and even fatal consequences. It’s not just breaking the law- but putting yourself and other people’s lives in danger. You do not want to be responsible for the death of somebody’s loved one just because you decided to drink and drive so be wise.
Keep an Eye On Your Money
It is so easy to get distracted during your spring break shenanigans, but make sure to always keep an eye on your valuables. No one wants their wallet or credit cards stolen- especially not during vacation!
When possible, avoid using your pin number at random ATM machines. Once a criminal gets that number they can wipe your bank account out. If you must carry cash, keep it at the minimum. Don’t withdraw all of your vacation money at once, you don’t want to attract thieves or lose ALL of your money. Spring break is supposed to be fun. I don’t believe losing all of your money would be fun at all.
Have Safe Sex
I know, another party-pooper phrase. What’s the fun in safe sex? There is a lot more fun to be had than becoming pregnant or contracting a disease so be careful. Spring break brings college students from all over the country, and the world, together at sandy beaches. Chances are, people will hook-up, it’s only natural. But, like any other time, safe sex is recommended. Protect yourself!
Avoid Alcohol Poisoning
In most cases, most people don’t know they are being poisoned until it’s too late. A lot of students drink excessively: from the time they wake up in the morning until late at night. But, what they don’t know is that consuming too much alcohol or even passing out from drinking can lead to death. Do NOT underestimate the dangers of alcohol poisoning.
Use Common Sense
For some people, common sense is not available. They just don’t have it. Don’t be like that. Use your head when you are out and about partying. If you see something that doesn’t look right, stay away from it and get near somebody who you trust. Partying around a bunch of drunk strangers may sound cool, but it can be dangerous. You never know who you are around and what background they might have. Steer clear of the ones who seem like trouble and never allow yourself to get so drunk that you lose control. Stay in check and just have fun.
